Today we light a candle in the wind for you, my sister. You were Dad’s first born. The one who arrived first to show us the way. And I was the last born. The one you caught when I fell. You were my shelter. My second mother. You carried me on your back when I was small, And you carried me in your prayers when I got older. Life blew strong winds at you, but you never let the flame in you go out. You kept burning for all of us. Warming us. Guiding us. Now the wind has taken your candle. But the light you left behind? It will never go out. It lives in Dad’s stories. In my choices. In how I love people. First born and last born. Bookends of one love story. Rest well, my sister. I will keep your flame alive. We love you. We miss you. We thank you.
