Tribute to My Mum “For Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee.” — Isaiah 26:3 Mum, this was the verse you used to comfort me over 35 years ago, when I was afraid to return to boarding school after my first year. You spoke it with such calm assurance that it settled my heart, and it has carried me ever since. In every season of life, you always had a scripture ready, a word to steady us, a promise to hold on to. You planted the Word in us from childhood, and it became the anchor of our lives because you lived it first. You didn’t just teach us the Scriptures; you taught us the way of the Lord. You took me with you to the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, sitting among men and women who testified of God’s power and faithfulness. Those meetings shaped me. They opened my eyes to a living faith, a faith that works, a faith that transforms. You gave me that foundation, and it has guided my steps ever since. Just two days before your passing, we were still talking about the future - your big, beautiful plans, your hopes, your encouragement. You reminded me again to follow peace with all men, assuring me that God’s glory would shine through in the end. We ended that conversation with plans to continue later in the week. I didn’t know it would be the last time I would hear your voice. I miss our gist, maa mi. I miss your laughter, your wisdom, your gentle strength. You have fought the good fight. You have kept the faith. You have finished your race. I am grateful you are in a better place — though it feels too soon for me. But I know you would not want any of us to worry. You lived a life of sacrifice, of giving, of covering others. That is your legacy, and it will continue to live through us. Good night, Mum. Rest in the peace of the God you trusted so deeply.
